Cosmo - Hahn's Macaw
Well, after 30 minutes or so and one time out (For running up my shoulder and biting instead of stepping up), Cosmo got his harness on and had some outside time on the porch and in the backyard. He kept on trying to chew the harness, so I had to distract him and rewarded him with a treat when there was a period of no chewing. I had him out about 45 minutes and seemed to enjoy the attention of the neighbors and people walking by. Hopefully the more times I do this the easier it will be and he can enjoy it more. Here's some pics from the camera phone. I'll have to dust off the old DSLR and take some better pics in the near future. :) At one point he was doing the weird look at something. Couldn't tell what he was looking at, but he kept cocking his head side to side. :)

For the most part he was good. At least he wasn't freaking out. :) He constantly wanted to chew that harness though. :) But he enjoyed getting a treat, when he is good. :) I smashed up an AviCake and put it in a little baggie. He likes the Nutriberries, but they only had real large bags at the store. So I went with the AviCake fruit one.

That is awesome!

Every time I try to get harvey to let me put on his harness, he lets it go over his head before chowing down on it. When I try to distract him, though, he bites me. Same as when he gets overzealous when we are playing with some of his toys. Like "No! Its mine!"

The weather has been so perfect lately though, that I wish I could get it on him! How did he take it with you touching under his wings? He makes a grumbly sound when i do it, but lets my wife no problems.

Cute pictures :) So worth it getting them used to a harness . I only had one of my birds that I could do that with. Im getting a baby Macaw and hope to do well with the harness with him. Are you going to the Bird fair in Buffalo in June ?

Chris, the photos are darling! Thanks for sharing! Easy to see Cosmo enjoyed his field trip. He really did great for his first harness adventure.

Luckily from the get go I was able to play a little game with Cosmo. I would take my finger like I was going to tickle him under his wing and he would raise it up while I would say "show your wing" or "pretty wings". He seemed not to mind it that way. I kind of prepared for the harness that way. Doesn't like putting his head through the hole as much though. Have to coax him with a treat. :)

I didn't know there is a birdfair coming up. When is it? I'll probably go. Is it that one ran by Maria's Exotics? Getting Cosmo used to the harness will take a lot more work. :)

Allee,
I hope he enjoyed it. Was stressful for both of us getting it on and out the door. :)

Ah, it's at the VFW post in Cheektowaga. Maria had a bird fair in Tonawanda last year. I just missed it by a week or so. Usually what happens, I find out about it after it happens. :) No Cosmo isn't from her. I contacted her inquiring about birds a while ago and she never got back to me. Plus I didn't hear good things about her from several people.

You know, thats why I was asking you. I contacted her once [and didn't respond]
I also heard that not so great stuff. Birds are too much money
to not have it together.

Omg I so want to get a harness now!!!congrats Cosmo!!! Oh and you as well lol.
