Gold capped conure
Hello!
Thanks to everyone who has helped me with my gold cap Jade in the past :) We are now getting reading for a cage mate for her. I was wondering if Jade will change at all because of the new bird? How can I get them to share a cage? Will a bird usually accept a new bird in their cage? Is there anything I need to worry about? I've also heard that you should quarantine a new bird? They are from the same breeder so do I need to do that?

Thanks! :green1:

It is never advisable to put a parrot in with an existing one in the same cage. The established one will be territorial. That can go so far as to have deadly consequences, and at best, very stressful for the birds. You will need to provide an adequate sized cage for an additional bird.

Any time you get a new bird yes, it's in your best interest to quarantine at least a month-45 days. You never know what illness a bird may be hiding. Symptoms are more likely to surface when a bird is under stress (as when changing homes). Especially important when your bird comes from a breeder who does not run a 'closed aviary system' a tested and confirmed disease free environment with strict protocols against diseases entering the aviary. It's also good practice to take your bird for a new bird exam. I even pay extra for viral disease testing, since not all things will surface within the first couple months. YES it is important.
