Alright, so Gigi is officially beginning to hate me. Which sucks because we were off to such a great start. I think she was still getting used to her new environment, so she was on her best behavior.

Wow does she hate toweling. And the crappy thing is, we have to do it every few days to clean out her beak. She's gotten to the point where she won't come out of her cage for a few hours when we first open it. Before she would be waiting right on the door for us to open it up.

I know you're not supposed to force the bird to do anything or push them out of their comfort zone, but in her case it has to be done. It's for her health.

I forgot to mention this earlier, but last week she even bit my face! She was sitting on top of her cage and I was standing next to it talking to her. All of a sudden she just reached over, grabbed my lip and...well...now I've got a scar to match the one my dog gave me back in 5th grade.

I'm thinking about not covering her at night anymore. She always tries to attack the sheet whenever we put it over her and when we take it off. Maybe she doesn't like to be covered and that's why she also freaks out about the toweling.

Let me know your thoughts

Shes probably seeing you as the one whos doing things to her that she really doesn't want done, the towelling etc, Its a shame that she doesn't realise that you are only doing this for her good and well being.

Wow the bite sounds really nasty, and being on the lip its gonna hurt, (does it show I know what I'm saying here, yep had a good one from Bucc last year)

By forcing her out of her comfort zone, even though it has to be done, is not a nice experience for her, so she's seeing you do all these things that she doesn't like and is taking it personally. I think as she hates towelling so much its a good idea to stop the covering of her cage.

When she has her new beak will you still have to do these things with her? If not then hopefully when its all over she will then be able to see you as the loving parront that we all know you are.

Hope the lip isn't too painfull now.

Whenever she gets her *new* beak, we won't have to keep cleaning hers out. However, she is still going to hate me for a while because she will be on anti-biotics for a short period of time. Hopefully when that's all over, we can start fresh.

The lip was pretty tender for a few days, even if I drank water it would sting because she got me pretty good on both sides. Plus, her scraggly little beak I think made it even worse. I guess it's kinda like comparing a smooth knife to a serrated knife. The serrated one isn't as clean of a cut so yeah, it's pretty painful. It seems to be healing up nicely. It only hurt me for a few days afterwards, and hopefully there will be no love marks left behind.

I must admit though, I'm pretty glad about how I handled the situation. I didn't yell or freak out, just told her that she was a bad bird and to not do that. Then grabbed a tissue to clean up my bloody face :(

I think I'm going to stop with the covering at night too.

 Ouch, at least mine was with the smooth knife, but that was painful enough.

Well done on that, its hard as instict usually takes over and before you know it your yelling. Good job to ya :35: :35:

Good luck with Gigi! I hope everything goes well with her! I can't really offer much advice, because I suck at advice giving, but yeah, hope everything gets better soon.

I feel for you Nicole. Pepsi is frightened to death of the towel, but sometimes you have other choice. Breaks my heart to grab her and she starts breathing so heavy. Its such a slow process.

In some good news about Pepsi we finally got her to step up onto a stick. We are still taking it very slow, but at least its some progress!!!
