Hi there guys,

About 2 months ago I saw a listing on facebook for an "urgent sale".
2 green cheeks for R700 (normal pet store rate for one is R800-R1000), I am too lazy to convert to dollars. Price isnt that important though

I thought to myself, damn thats way too good to be true, let me go check it out. When I got to the sellers house, I was kinda shocked, tiny home, very dirty and the owners werent the best looking people. No age,sex or history available.
We advertised that the birds were with us and if there was a family missing them, they could contact us but got no response

I bought the birds as I have been looking to get 1 for ages and off I went to my house.

The birds have a spot next to my living room chair. They get 4-5 hours attention per day and seem to be friendly enough. Over the last 2-3 weeks they have been taking foodstuff from my hand through the cage. From time to time we open up the cage and let them sit on top of it. Getting them in is easy enough if they leave their cage area I bring the cage to them and they climb in.

I have had to pick them up with my hands. 1 bites me alot (understandably so) and the other just sits there. I can rub his head a little but he doesnt seem to enjoy it too much

They seem to play with me a little. They do lots of short chirps and run to the otherside of the cage , then run back. I am not sure if this is a game or if they are in fear. No feathers are puffed up and alot of the time they push their beaks through the slots in the cage,

What can I do to get their trust and eventually get to hold them.
I tried to take a video of them making noises and what I assume is playing, but they got camera shy

Apologies for the really long post, I just wanted to get as much info in as possible.

Look up Live Laugh Birds and Marlene Mc’cohen on YouTube. I like their ideas. MandyandRio has good stuff too.

Great job giving them a great home, time will help as well as building trust! Keep us updated on the progress

Hi guys,

Just an update on Banjo and Cazooey

They still run to the other side of the cage if i approach it, Sometimes they will come look if I have food.

Biggest changes so far,
I have started opening their cage which they really enjoy. They climb out and perch ontop, Its normally open from around 5:30pm, if not they sure let us know that they are caged up

Cazooey managed to get out while i was changing their water bowl, He escaped to the neighbours yard were with the help of Banjo we managed to lure him back. Took about an hour to finally get him

Since then they have been extra skittish and I understand why. It was a frightening afternoon for us all

In the meantime, I will keep letting them out for the evening, Their cage is next to where I sit and watch tv, So there is that interaction still too
