Cockatiels - Oz & Kaila
Hi all! Been a while since I've posted uh? Well things have been going great for me and Oz. I unfortunately had to clip him due to repeated window hits and the stress it was putting on the rest of the family but I'm glad that he's still very confident about flying over to us when he's somewhere else in the room (the clip isn't severe enough to keep him from flying completely, he can still somewhat gain some altitude and travel a few feet before smoothly losing altitude). I gotta admit I cried a little, but it was better for all of us in the house. It just really wasn't safe with 5 people living in a house. I know they won't always think to ask whether Oz is in his cage or not before opening doors and all that. I do hope to let his wings grow back in when we move out and I get a place of my own.

So, on to the actual subject of this thread, I've been looking at other birdies for sale. Mostly for entertainment's sake but if do I happen to fall in love with one of them birdies weeeeell... ;) I do worry that getting another bird might make Oz uninterested in us humans thought...

Anyway, here is one of the little guys I stumbled upon:

The add says he's a male over a year old but am I crazy to think he doesn't really look mature? Or is it just how the shot was taken/just a molt?

So, is this a 1 year old bird? He also seems pearled so I'm not entirely sure he's male. Oz lost his pearls and he's a bout 1 year old now too.

Definitely not over a year old, thats a baby probably about 4 weeks old give or take. I have 4 almost 5 week old babies right now. That's a not a very clear pic as well. Ask them for other photos. Perhaps they shared a photo when it was little or they are lying so be very careful.

If it was a boy it should of molted out most of the pearl already or pretty much done. Either they don't know or it's a girl instead of a boy.

Maybe he/she's a dwarf!!! Someone else on this forum has a couple of them.. super tiny tiels!!
Although it's unlikely, and it's more likely that the person isn't being entirely truthful, it's still a chance hehe.

Hello I am the one with the dwarf cockatiels. If you look up my threads I have posted photos of my dwarfs. One of them, Tiny, has tail feathers that look a lot like that one. I would be cautious that if he is in fact 12 months old there could be some potential health problems.

My tiel Tiny is nearly 6 months and he only weighed 56grams and looks like a 4 week old baby.

Here's one of my babies that I'm hand feeding still, she is 34 days old today! She is a Whiteface Pearl!!!

Mikey your tiel has perfectly formed tail feathers whereas the other bird has stumpy, bristly ones that's why I think it could just be a really small bird

That baby looks like she's broken off all her tail feathers which it happens with baby tiels. As they're rough on their tail feathers when young. Quite a few of my babies that I still have broke off numerous tail feathers from playing in the cage or acting crazy with the other babies.

Yeah, the little guy is adorable but I don't think I'd risk buying him if he could be sick or if the owner his lying about stuff...

I just gotta say mikey, that baby is adorable OwO

Kay,

I have a couple of babies that color this time as well. Beautiful baby you've got there! :)

Ty Mikey! This is one of 3 of my pairs first clutch and they are all stunning with very noticeable cinnamon tints to their feathers which I love! :) this one also took its first flight today :)

This is my second generation babies as I raised the daddy myself. They throw pearls, greys, cinnamon pearl pied, cinnamon pearl, cinnamon pearl pied whiteface, and whiteface so far. I'm waiting to see what other mutations they will make. I find it quite interesting! :)

I didn't expect to get any pearls bc I have no idea what the parents were to my pair even though the female is a cinnamon pearl pied and I thought my male was just a normal pied but nope he's normal pied split to cinnamon pearl, so I got two pearls and a pied, all 3 cinnamon :) I just love the transformation each day from once they hatch!

It always interests me to watch them grow and develop even after so many years of raising them. :)
