I posted the same topic a few moths ago - I ended up with a pan from Walmart which was only $9.95! It's very good - I had it for about 4 mo now and used A LOT! Mainstays 10" Non-Stick Skillet - Walmart.com
My friends gave me one too, so I'm all set now. I had some stainless steel pots and ceramic dishes before as well. Stainless steel and ceramic is fine. Anything that says "PTFE- and PFOA-free". I was totally broke at that time and terrified, but it all worked out great. Just head to your closest Walmart or Target.
Stainless steel is bird-safe and not hard to clean. I also recommend old-fashioned cast iron, which lasts forever, and enamelware, which is also durable and easy to clean.
I'm personally a fan of enamelware/enameled cast iron for pots and stainless for pans. So long as you don't cook on excessively high heat and use wood/plastic utensils, enamelware is very durable and very non-stick. Stainless is good too, again, cook on a lower heat and use some oil. The nice thing with stainless over enamelware or even regular (toxic) non-stick, is if you Do happen to burn something on, you can scrub as much as you need to get it off without damaging
