Our wonderful happy and healthy lovebird, Bella, died today from a bird wash shampoo.

Bird Bath Spray

We read the instructions and followed it to the tee immediately after spraying it on her we could tell that she wasn't acting normal so we quickly rinsed it off of her...it only took five minutes for Bella to die belly up on the bottom of her cage. There was no warning or notice on the bottle.
There is nothing we could have done to stop the reaction.

We called the company and they going to preform an autopsy on her to check if she breathed it into her lungs or if she had a severe allergic reaction.

Don't risk killing your bird, don't buy this product...The product had a picture of a lovebird on it and it killed ours...Just because a product is for birds doesn't mean it won't kill your bird, be absolutely sure it is safe before using a product.

!!!! Oh I'm so sorry this happened to your girl! Please give us the results as soon as you can, if this product did cause her death people need to know. Thank you for the warning.

I am so so sorry for your loss. That is horrible. Thank you for taking the time to alert others of this product. I hope the company can figure out what happened to give you some closure. :-(

OMG I am so sorry for your loss. That is awful. And I also say thank you so much for the warning:(

Oh my gosh. This is so terrible and you must be devastated . My heart goes out to you and your family. Blessings to beautiful happy Bella in birdy heaven.

That is SO scary , I use bird bath products sometimes on Pepsi and sprite when they get really dirty. I will keep a lookout for that product. Maybe you can find out if anybody else's bird died from it. If the autopsy is true I would spread the danger around or maybe the company will fix it. So sorry for your love bird :(

I can't imagine the grief. You have my sincerest compassion.

So scary! I only use water or the product rain. I once used a bird bath spray and it made Rosie so greasy! Also, most bird bath sprays say avoid food and water, if I can spray it into her food I don't want her preening it off her feathers!

I'm really glad the company is doing a autopsy, it shows they are at least concerned.

Horrible horrible news!!! :( Very sorry to hear, and thank you for the warning.

I am sorry for your lost. How old was your Lovie? I do appreciate that you took the time in your situation to alert fellow bird owners of this product. I personally always preferred water. Peace be to you.

oh my goodness, I am so very sorry for your loss, what an unfortunate accident.
I've only used bird bath spray once on a canary I have that was going thru a terrible molt, the poor thing was miserable. I purchased the spray, and diluted it by 50% with water.
I was worried to use it on such a small bird. I didn't notice any improvement and never used it again.
please let us know what the results are and thank you for warning us.

Sorry for your loss Forbella, and while I agree that a lot of what is sold for birds is not and may very well be dangerous.....

Similarly, as someone else has done, I also would not recommend anything from birdtricks as I don't agree with their flooding techniques for parrot training, let alone soaps or shampoos that are not necessary for bathing birds. The only time one might need to use a soap type solution on a companion parrot is if the bird were to get into a sticky mouse trap, oil or some type of grease and in those instances, a neutral dish soap like Dawn dish detergent works very well, but be sure to rinse well.

And, just because a product is sold for birds doesn't mean it is right for your bird.....

Sorry for you loss, I feel your pain
I am a strong believer in only using tepid water to bathe our birds
No matter what the label reads
I am not blaming you at all !!!!!!!!
Just shows NEVER believe what is printed on the label

Perhaps it was not the product, lets wait for the necropsy results

Please keep us updated what the outcome is

That is so sad! I'm so sorry for your lost! :(

I have never used bathing product on any of my parrots before and now, and never will! Water only! When the label says avoid spaying near food and water, but what happenes when they bird preens it's feather? It's gonna get some in the mouth. So I don't trust spays like this.

Thanks for sharing this!

Please dont let a bird bath company perform the autopsy, please have your avian vet do it! They are completely biased and will be trying to prevent a law suit.
