The Rickeybird, 40-year-old Patagonian Conure
For some reason, I was moved to compose this and share. Maybe somebody needs to read it tonight. Or maybe I needed to write it.

Old Bird
(a free verse)
Dedicated to the Rickeybird, and to Old Birds everywhere, and to the people who love them.

Old Bird. My bird. My bird, forever.
Time finds its meaning in our time together.

Mi vínculo con la Verdad (My link to the Truth).
And to Nature. And to youth.

And age.
And ages.
We have both had cages...
Of work and wages, loss and rages, dark back stages.
But we've turned the pages.

We've cut through the mystery.
Of life, love and history.
For us, it's just chemistry.

This morning, you greeted the dawn with your usual screams. Animation, jubilation, exultation!
Mid-day, I caught you in an unexpected nap. It's late afternoon now. Need another quick rest, my little rooster?

Someday our play here will draw closed its curtain.
We'll stay together, though. Somehow I'm certain.

That's what Eternity's for!

Old Bird. My Bird. My Bird Forever.

Well done. With age comes a deeper connection to truth. Very much enjoyed glad you shared it!

Thank you Gail, that brought a tear to the eye of this “Old Bird” from across the Pacific!

The poem is very beautiful Gail. I can see you both on the recliner whispering sweet nothings to each other...what a lovely picture.

Gail, this is so beautiful and such a wonderful tribute to the love you share with Rb.
This is truly inspiring, my Friend.

I will recite that to Amy today..thanks Ms Gail...it is as beautiful as you ;)

Laura, LaM, Ellie, Terry, Amy, everybody... thank you. Y'all know how it is. Every now and then parronts just need to say some of that stuff, and where else in the world would we go to do that but right HERE on the ol' PF? :) xo

Beautifully inspired, Gail. Truth and wisdom in every word, thanks for sharing!

Thanks dear friend for the comforting reminders of the joy of aging with a long beloved family member.

Old Bird's, Old Friend's, Old Companion's we are...
Together, we sit communicating, sometimes verbally, but most times with simple head movements that only we know the meaning.
A glance or a teared eye, passes volumes between us.
A glance and a sweet smile, passes heartheld moments of joy.

Joyful Old Friends we are...

Scott, thank you. I know you get me. You always do.

Hey, Mr. Boats... I'm officially stealing what you wrote and using it as verse two. I love that passage about "simple head movements that only we know the meaning". I think all of us parronts can relate to that one.

:)

You're most welcomed to officially including mind as part of yours. :D
