do I have a jenday, sun, or sunday?

I just put down a deposit on this sweetie....

Hard to tell, particularly if its very young. If it develops yellow wings you'll know its a sun. I'm leaning toward it being a young sun, but I have very little certainty on that.

Not much difference really though between the two. By most systems they are considered the same species - the only difference is that suns develop more yellow on the wings as they mature.

It looks like a sun conure to me. A lot of Jendays that i have seen have more green to there head than Sun conures do

My thought is he is a ''Sunday Conure'' Jenday x Sun conure. He has alot of green on the back/wings(atleast from what I can see) wich is more a jenday trait(my jenday is really green up the back/with simular markings of the blueish tones on the wings/tail). The belly/head coloring is suggestive of more Sun conure(the speckley orange mixed in yellows ).That mix of coloring plus the head/body shape and general appearance,makes me think jenday/sun hybrid conure too.He's very pretty.Do you have a name for him yet?

I got her at a local pet store here in my town. She was brought in by her previous owner. She is suppose to be about 3 years old.

Aha! I think I might know. I'm pretty sure that she's a Sunday conure. I agree with prophecy about the green wings. And if you look closely at the blue primaries, it isn't a rich enough blue to be a jenday, but yet it looks more black like a Sun. But her body coloring seems to carry a little of both.

AD I agree with you that they are the same bird, the attitudes and noise levels of the birds are identical ... here's the thing though ... The yellow in the wings in a juvenile sun are still predominately yellow I have attached two pictures of Hamlet the first is from the first morning we had her home she may have just weaned from hand feedings (January 11, 2008 is the date in the Metadata, and I know that's accurate) the second picture was taken in August and is my girl in her full adult colors (notice the yellow is in about the same place - her younger wings aren't all green, there is more yellow than green.)

A Sun's primary flights are iridescent blue ... at least Hamlet's are .... I've never seen a Sun with black primaries.

Sunday's aren't as predominantly found in the pet market as everyone wants to think they are ... and I think if we were to look at actual SUNDAY CONURES we'd find that they are A LOT more RED FACTORED then a normal Sun or Jenday conures are ... I just tried to find a picture via a google search and almost all of the pictures that came back on the first three pages are improperly listed as "Sundays" when in fact they are either Jendays or Suns ...

To the OP - to answer your original question, you have a CLASSIC JENDAY conure ... looks really young too, expect full adult plumage and coloration to be completed by 3 years old. You will probably get A LOT more vibrant yellows through the breast area, at least that's my guess from seeing what happened with Hamlet ...
