Adding a second Conure to my home

I have a 2 YO Male GCC, he's a cool bird. He's a bit protective of me and likes to harass my partner a bit but overall very nice. He socializes with people that visit my home pretty well too.

I'm thinking of buying a baby Pineapple GCC or similar. Has anyone else added a second bird to their home? I'm guessing I'd need a second cage to begin with while the get to know each other?

A friend bought a second GCC for his female GCC and the get on quite well but I guess each bird is different.

Thought? Comments?

Thanks in advance.

Each should have their own set up for sure. Supervised play time only. Just gotta be prepared if they don't like each other to still provide plenty of interaction separately

I agree with the above, you. Have to be prepared if they don't like each over . Are you getting it for yourself or for the bird ? They might love each over or hate each over. The old gcc might bully the other since he's a baby. Will you put them in the same cage ?

No worries, I thought I'd do some homework first. I'm getting it for myself, I love bird and would love a second bird, also one that my partner can hopefully bond with a little more than Loco, she was scared of birds to begin with but is fine now.

Yeah Loco might be a really bully, who knows...

I was hoping for the same cage eventually but if they don't get along or Loco doesn't want the second bird in his home then I may need two cages. I have a spare cage at work here at I take Loco in a bit with me.

It probably helps if you start with younger birds, but that's not always a guarantee.

Noel, cherry headed conure (RIP), got along well with Casey, my first tiel. Noel was estimated to be 9-11 years old, if not older, when he came to me.

Charlie, mitred conure (was supposedly cherry head, but different species), got along with a lilac crowned amazon in his foster home and he got there when he was about 11 years old. Before the foster home, he was an only bird (as far as anyone knows). He was 12 when I got him.

Noel and Charlie never really did get along. Charlie wanted to be buddies with Noel but he has always been too aggressive in behavior. Noel would copy him, but beyond that didn't seem to have any interest.
