We just got our christmas tree yesterday and I was thinking, it would be GREAT if Sprite could sit in there!! He'd LOVE it!!! Anyone know if its safe??

hummm i'd be worried about any pesticides used, though i am not sure pine trees need it?? but some fertilisers canbe as harmfull
but i can't wait to get ours up
normally the wk before xmas lol
not sure what the nut is gonna make of it, an how long the decorations will stay up for
i've hinted at hubs to grow our own for next yr, we currently have a plastic 1 lol

Hmm, I have an artificial one because I'm allergic to pine trees. My birds haven't ever gone after it, but the cat will. She will even try to chew on fake needles like it's a real tree. And of course I don't use any glass bulbs anymore in case she would break one. I don't think pine is a problem for birds, but yes, it could have some kind of pesticide on it.

Things to watch and be careful of with a christmas tree :
- Make sure there are no pesticides. Usually if you go and cut it yourself, you can ask and make sure they don't use any.
- Check for sap as you wouldn't want any on the feathers
- Christmas lights have lead in the cord. Wash hands after handling and you don't want bird to chew.
- Careful with water in the tree stand (drowning). They make stands where the water is enclosed.

LOL thats just what my cat does, she climbs in the tree so you cant see her you just see bulbs shaking, then she pokes her hear out with her eyes wide, and the other cats swat the bottom bulbs XD
also for bird safe decorations, you can use air popped unbuttered, unsalted, popcorn on string and you can use bird safe vegetable die, but make sure its meant for dying bird toys just to be safe. heres a link to help, btw is mentions using pine cones as safe ornaments, but make sure to use plain, unscented pine cones with no glitter or anything else, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

An artificial tree yes, except the decorations....real tree NO, it is toxic! That was the first thing I learned with my first parrot during our first christmas together and we buy real tree. It is not safe!!!

Merlin didnt pay any attention to ours last year. It was the 1st I had put up for about 10 years so it was his 1st. We were shopping for a tree & noticed that Lowe's trees were spray painted green. The real trees, I couldnt believe it. If he had been facinated w/the tree, I would have had problems. We didnt buy a tree @ Lowes, but you can never be sure what was put on them. We did grow our own for years, but they are all either cut for XMAS or too large now to use, so I have to buy one.

We put ours in a different room this year because we were afraid Pearl wouldn't like it. She doesn't like big room changes. She's been growling at the stuffed santa across the room for the last week. We didn't want to find out what would happen with a large shiny object lol.
Hi, I have two little conures and wondered if they can be in the same room as a real tree, not to fly around or sit in, but to be in the same room in their cage. We have had our conures since February so this is our first Christmas.

Is it or is it not safe to have a real tree with a bird in the house. Not really on the tree... just in the same room.

I had a real tree last year and Zilla even climbed around in it a couple times. I always get Douglas Fir and she is fine.
