Alabama (sadly)
Parrots
Scout- Cockatiel
Sawyer- Cockatiel
both 5 years old
I've been trying to not force them, I open the cage when I feed them every morning and they gladly hop onto the door to get their breakfast.
Today though... Sawyer climbed up onto the door and to the top of the cage! Not sure if he did that intentionally or if he just didnt realize he was climbing out. Anyway, he had some fun on the top of the cage, whistling and tapping the bars for a good 20 min or so.

as I went to try to put Sawyer back in, Scout flies out of the cage and Sawyer flies down with him.

(Scout on my leg haha)

They were pretty spooked coming out as always.. And scout was just trying to climb on me to get back in his cage haha.

Anyway I'm just surprised that they finally came out themselves. It probably wont happen again for a while... but just wanted to share. Not sure if this is progress or not...

Aww! Yay! Even baby steps are progress.

Thank you everyone.
and @Aandeg.. I HOPE/WISH! I would love to have them out every minute of the day <3

That is so amazing!! Definitely don't discount this as progress, it most definitely is!

Especially if they feel comfortable enough to climb on you to get to their cage, that is still a HUGE trust thing for a bird. He's vulnerable and putting all of his trust in you not to hurt him while he makes his way to his destination. That is a big trust builder, so if they ever want to climb on you just to get to their cage or someplace else, let them do so, and then try to reward them after (my favourite thing to offer as a treat/reward is a syringe, without a needle obviously, filled with fruit juice.. they get a drop of juice out of the tip which is an excellent tidbit while not filling their bellies with juice)

I also find that target/touch training at this point can be VERY beneficial, so that is something you might want to look in to :)

You are making fantastic progress! How they lived the first years of their lives and what you have done for them? Another angel just received it's wings because of you!

This is great progress, very brave birdies, and such cuties!
