Hahaha, I just couldn't stand not being one of the cool kids and finding out for myself if Amazons have more fun!!!

A sad story and strange circumstances but for now I'd rather focus on the positive. Please help us welcome Bingo to his new home and to the planet's best parrot forum.

A very special thank you to our Terry57 and to Sailboat for the crash course on how to proceed after you rescue a stressed Amazon. The advice they both gave me was solid gold. Our members, our forum friends and family are amazing.

I had no clue what sub species this handsome guy is but two members have guessed from photos, Mealy Amazon or Yellow Crowned Amazon. Either way, my family has been concerned for these birds for more than four years. I did say these birds, the CAG is with my husband in his apartment three hours away for now. They had an immediate connection so I may not get to meet Jack the CAG until next week, if then.

These photos aren't great and Bingo's cage is not clean or set up very well yet, he's showing signs of stress so we are trying to keep things as calm as possible.

Sorry for the photo quality, I didn't think Bingo would appreciate an all out photo shoot just yet.

He has a small yellow stripe on the top of his head, a couple of yellow feathers on the back of his neck, a little red patch on the top of each wing, and four solid red feathers on the underside of each wing, a little red on the sides of his tail. He has a lot of stress bars on his wings and no eyelashes. Even though he needs a bath, I finally know why a lot of folks sniff their Amazons.

He seems to like me or to wants to like me. He got excited when I sang Bingo for him and joined in with B-I-N-G-O. He also reached over and preened my hair a few times. I usually don't fall in love so quickly but I always leave room for exceptions.

Awww Allee. Bingo is beautiful. Thank you for providing a wonderful home to him and Jack.

Welcome to Bingo and thank you Allee for giving another a fab home. Look forward to hearing more in time.

big welcome to bingo! Looks like a happy if slightly nervous. I'm sure in time that'll be a remarkably happy amazon. I wish I had the ability to look after so many beautiful birds like others here

Welcome home and to the forum Bingo :D
Can't wait to hear tons more about you!

You saw the light finally:09:

Welcome home and to Parrot Forum BINGO! I have a feeling there is going to be tons of stories as you open-up and you have one wonderful place to open-up in and around Big Guy.

And, I know you are going to live up to the strutting standards of an Amazon! Its going to be fun to locate you within the extended DNA Family of the Yellow Napes: Mealy, Yellow-Nape and Yellow-Crowned! Currently, the belief is that you are not a Yellow-Nape and one vote each way as to a Mealy or a Yellow-Crowned. The pictures in different light are just as varied!

Aaaa, the scent of Amazon in the Morning!

As I re-read this thread...I'm sniffin'away at Amy lol. I cant describe the "scent"..kind of sweet

I read Al's post about his Salty boy going all Pavarotti on him,so yesterday, while Amy was on my shoulder,we watched a couple 'zon you tube opera video's, one with a BF and her human singing away. OMG Amy went into full blow Amazon gibberish and song! I never heard her get so excited
Salty may have started an Amazonia trend!

Welcome Bingo ! I hope your new home is a happy place for you for the rest of your life.
You look like a Mealy Amazon to me ( note the wide eye circle of bare skin) but the yellow on your forehead and the red shoulder tips....hmmm you have us guessing. But either way you lucked out, as your new Mom is a very experienced parrot person. You can trust her.

Allee - be patient with Bingo, as we know you will. Bingo is going to get loud one or two times a day. Really loud. Sing with him, nothing distracts Amazons from screaming like sing along with Mom or Dad.

How old is this bird? If he's a juvenile, I'm bucking the trend and voting yellow nape. The yellow on the nape doesn't come in until they are a few years old. Wikipedia says between three and five years. He already has a few yellow feathers there and the pattern of yellow on his head is nothing like that of a yellow crown. He looks a lot more like the young napes I've known and handled. I haven't been around a lot of yellow crowns, especially young ones, but this bird's conformation, shade of green, beak coloration and pattern of yellow are saying "yellow nape" to me.

This opinion may be worth exactly what you paid for it. :) We'll see. Maybe we should have a bet. Losers donate $5 to the avian charity of their choice. ;) I wouldn't mind giving a few bucks to a good charity.

Congratulations Allee, and welcome home Bingo!

He is a handsome bird, and yes, the amazon odor is intoxicating. My Gonzo smells like roses!

Your intuitive nature will allow Bingo settle in nicely and blossom!

I have no clue on what species Bingo could be, but he is a handsome boy! I too just recently joined the Amazon family with my blue front, Willie, and he has already brought me more joy than I could have ever imagined. Hopefully Bingo does the same for you!

Allee, I am just so thrilled that Bingo and Jack are finally with you! Those lucky guys will soon realize the lottery they won by being loved by you, my Friend:)
Looking so forward to all the stories of their journey with you.

Welcome home Bingo (from one Bingo to another).

From the sound of the other posts you have uploaded more photos that the ones in this thread. I guess I missed them. I am not an expert on multitude of Amazon sub-spices. I have read that there is some difference just between Yellow Napes that come from different areas.

I hope once Bingo is settled in you can post a video. would like to show my Bingo a movie of yours.

Congratulations Allee on your beautiful new buddy! I am sure once Bingo settles in he will blossom into a wonderful (though slightly evil, being an amazon and all:eek:) companion! Bet way to reduce stress and make a friend for life is food. As I'm sure you're aware, amazons just LOVE food:rolleyes:

Just an opinion, but that blocky beak and his overall appearance really strikes me immediately as a YNA who just doesn't have much yellow. A mealy would have some blue on the crown of the head and I don't know why, but just doesn't strike me as a mealy. I wonder what your vet will say? Surely they can tell!

Bingo! I love this guy!!!! Welcome home, you're in the right place.

When I first got Gabby, I thought that smell was due to hand-feeding formula that was stuck to his feathers. On Facebook, one of the things said of Gabby by people who knew him: "He smelled like honey."

What an incredible little being he was. He looked like a flower and he smelled like honey! I haven't noticed that smell from Kizzy, but it might be I'm so used to it, I've filtered it out as "normal." My mother said she smelled it, so I'm sure Kizzy has that definitive scent.

Allee,

Please post the complete set of photos so that everyone can make a guess at, which member of this DNA Family Bingo is part!

Aside from coloration of the feathers, the two other telling features are overall size with the Mealy topping out the family in overall size and weight, with Yellow-Naped in the center, but still big and than the Yellow-Crowned being the lightest and smaller framed of the DNA family.

And, I believe that you stated that he was about seven years old, correct? This would have them nearing their full Adult size and with the exception of the YNA's near complete Adult coloration.

Thank you for all the kindness! Your support makes all the difference!

So sorry for the delay, I spent most of the day with this handsome fellow. We set up his cage a little better, he wasn't comfortable coming out so I moved things around and asked permission a lot. He was so adorable and polite. After we were done he entertained everyone with his sweet voice. He's a little charmer. I tried to get some better photos in better light.

At first I thought the black on the feathers on his neck were stress bars but up close it's only the tips of the feathers, like someone applied the color with a very fine soft brush. I'm not sure if you can see it but there are pale blue feathers on the top of his head and on his neck.

I am fairly certain now he is at least eight years old, information is sketchy but I'm pretty sure.
