I have an Amazon Southern Mealy parrot named Ollie.
I am the 5th owner/caretaker of a Southern Mealy Amazon parrot named Ollie. Sheā€™s 40 years old and is very vocal. She was my wifeā€™s bird. Unfortunately, she passed away last June and I just donā€™t have the time to commit to Ollieā€™s needs. She deserves some TLC and attention that I just canā€™t give her. Of course I donā€™t want her to go to just any olā€™ family. They would need to meet Ollie and get my approval for adoption. Looking forward to any feedback concerning this matter.
Respectfully,
Eric Gibson

Hello! I am in Ohio, not sure how close we are but I would love to meet Ollie!
Well I would love for you to meet Ollie too. Only one slight problemā€¦ā€¦.Iā€™m in Twin Falls Idaho. Thereā€™s quite a bit of distance between our states. Unless youā€™re up for a brief drive.

Hi there! Iā€™m in Montana and am looking for a first bird to adopt (Iā€™ve been around birds throughout my life but never owned my own) Unfortunately there is little to no available around here and Iā€™d like to avoid pet stores/breeders if possible. If Ollie is still looking for a home, Iā€™d love to talk!

Hi Eric! I live one state over in Washington with a conure at home that I've had for 11 years. I might be interested in adopting Ollie if she is still looking for a home. But I have a few questions if you don't mind:
1. Is she socialized and able to be handled?
2. Has she been officially DNA sexed as a female?
3. Does she have a preference between men and women?
4. Does she fly?
5. Has she ever been around other birds? And if so, what was her reaction?
6. When you say that she is vocal, do you mean that she has a wide vocabulary, or that she screams often? I live in a condo and may not be able to take her if she screams throughout the day (once in a while is obviously fine)

I look forward to hearing back!

Thank you,
Hannah

Hello Hannah! It pleases me to receive your response. Yes, Ollie is still looking to be rehomed. I havenā€™t been aggressively searching to find her a new caretaker due to the fact that she was my late-wifeā€™s pet and before she passed away, I assured her I would not get rid of Ollie. However, circumstances have caused me to reconsider. Truth of it is Ollie deserves more attention than Iā€™m able to provide her. So Iā€™ll do my best in answering your 6 questions. Ollie is unquestionably socialized and with the acquired trust, a handler can comfortably bond with her both physically and emotionally. As far as I know, she has never been clinically verified through DNA confirming her gender. But the overall consensus (Vets, exotic pet specialists, pet store staff, past caretakers and owners) is that sheā€™s a female. Sheā€™s not had her wings clipped, so she can fly. I have not witnessed her around other birds nor have I heard of any past stories involving her interacting with other birds. Iā€™m aware that she has been around a lot of cats and has grown a fondness for their company. In regards to her being vocalā€¦ā€¦.by that I mean she likes to talk and mimic her surroundings. She has a vast vocabulary of words, one-liners, voice changes, comments, snide remarks, snickers, whistles, sound effects and laughter. She emulates both human and animal behaviors and their many quirks. If youā€™re worried about constant screaming, you can relax. She may be a squawker at times but itā€™s very short lived and not intolerable to hear. I hope that I have been able to satisfy your curiosityā€™s regarding Ollie. Feel free to reach out again if you have any further queries.

Respectfully,
Eric

Thanks for your response, I appreciate it! I spoke things over with my partner with the info you gave, but unfortunately I think we cannot take her. She does sound like a wonderful bird and if I didn't have my conure I would absolutely take her, but we've decided it would be safer to find her a friend closer to her size. So sorry about that!
