True love is "RESCUED." Adopt, don't shop.








I'm in love with all of these birds and I would love to take them home with me. Please, to all who wish to get a bird, adopt them. It's cheaper and you're giving birds that never had the chance to live life to have that chance. Sure you might see a naked plucked bird and think, oh that's a horrible bird. But that doesn't mean it's any different. For all you know, it could be an incredible pet (and in most cases, they are). Please, adopt and rescue, stay away from pet shops. And do your homework. Be sure you're ready to take the bird. It needs a forever home, love, care, and attention. Thank you.

AP, I totally agree- hense me rescuing parrots all the time LoL.
I'm re-starting my rescue this fall/winter again.
Most of the birds we get are the frendliest birds ever, others we just need to work with before we adopt them out!
By adopting a bird you could be saving a life.

You are wise beyond your years, Ap. There are as many myths and misconceptions about birds in rescue as there are about caring for them...that's why there are so many birds in rescue. It's a vicious cycle.

There's a special place in my heart for "imperfect" anything, so a plucked bird would actually win some points for me. Besides, he/she just wants a safe place to roost at night, a steady supply of food and water (nothing fancy, mind you), and someone who will love them best.

I have seen almost naked birds come into rescue and with loving care, environment and nutrition they grow back feathers. Mabye not all but most. Every time a breeder comes into the forum I cringe. I do not want to be rude to that person but..............

Ap they are such beautiful birds, I hope they all find good homes, they definitely deserve it. I wish I had time/space for another fid and wish I lived near enough to actually help

SB, as a side note, lets remember that not all breeders are bad For instance, where I come from, 'over breeding' is rarely heard of and the breeders actually supply almost all pet birds and there are very few rescues.Without these breeders, we would still be plucking birds from the wild (although some people still do). I know the problem is different where you live and you are right, there definitely needs to be some level of control over breeding. Poor little birds, I wish I could help them.

I was so wanting to post this kind of message on another forum, but I haven't been there long and so didn't want to cause drama... but it seems like everyone is ONLY interested in newbirds

Currently 4 of my 5 birds are rescues and the other one just stole my heart from her tiny little corral in the petshop. All of my dogs, cats, and rabbits in the past 4 years have also been rescues. My parents started a small animal rescue when they got married and it continued on through my childhood and I still am willing to take in any needy animal, rehab it, and rehome(or keep if needed) it to a good family.

I purchased my bird from someone on Craigslist but I feel like I "rescued" her. I WAS going to buy a baby but I thought getting an older bird would be a good thing to do. SHe plucks and I am ok with that (I just hope she leaves her SKIN alone)

Who knows what would have happened if I wasn't the one to take this bird. She has vet care available to her from an avian certified vet (NOT a horse vet, which is what the previous owner used) a plethera of toys waiting to go into rotation, whatever food she will eat (we are working on healthier options...she seems to know what the bad stuff is already and craves it...sigh) and all the love I can give her.

I worry I am not the most experienced person to handle a rehoming situation, so thats why I joined some forums, so I have all you great people as resources!

Adopt and rescue...because EVERY animal deserves a chance :bunny7:

Ben it's amazing how different our situation is here. When I was looking for a rescue I had to search so hard before I found Chicka. It's a pity we couldn't ship them all over.

SB I feel the same way about pet shops here as you do breeders over there.

If I could rescue, I would. It isn't the same situation over here, breeders are recommended. I breed budgies but if I couldn't find a good home for them I would keep them and not breed. I don't breed on a large scale at all.

i live in ny and have been searching for a grey to rescue but i have been scammed acouple of time because of a big heart and i could have bought two already if anybody knows of an african grey that needs the love and home they should have PLEASE email me or just send a message thank u very much
