A New Parrot just discovered!!

A face only a mother could love, pretty sad though, just discovered and already a threatened species, reminds me of the pesquet's parrot with that bald head :11:

That really is unusual. You would think since it is newly discovered there would be alot of them. It is sad to think that magnificent animals like that soon will not be here anymore and never will again.

What a beautiful body, wonderful colouring, healthy looking bird. Any mother would love that face Bobby, LoL my mother loved me

He has got such a serious look about him, almost scary. Unbelievable only to be discovered now, and almost too late.

how strange n yet so beautiful .. pity theres not many of them left tho... such a shame

I was intregued after seeing the bald parrot and googled it for more info, and found that it was first written about back in 2002, after further reading I looked up the genus "Pyrilia" and found 6 other parrots in that family, I couldn't find a definition of pyrilia but I wouldn't doubt it meant "beautiful plumage", here are some pics of those other birds.........orange cheeked parrot, caica parrot, saffron headed parrot, rose faced parrot, brown hooded parrot, vulturine parrot.

Bobby,

I'm certainly no Latin scholar, but I believe "pyr" refers to "fire". I also know that "rillus" is a "fine hair".

I think you are on the right track with an interpretation of pyrillus "fiery hair"; i.e. "bright plumage."

Either that, or it means "parrot who looks like it lost its feathers in a fire." :p

Hey I just saw this at work today! What beautiful birds :) Amazing how its something like every 3 days or so they discover a new species in the rainforests (excuse my possibly slight over exaggeration)
