New cage top play area

Roux is loving her new play area I made using a wire ladder.

I have a cage with a curved top which makes it impossible to put a gym area on top. I found this wire ladder that's made to"clip" onto the top of the cage. It came with a few toys to attach to it. I had to already replace one abs repair the other. But she loves it. I can't help but laugh sometimes as she's doing all sorts of acrobatics on it

I took a wider pic to show exactly how it looks on top.

OOOO, that’s pretty. I have one similar, but it opens on top. :smile049:
It looks like your Roux is a happy girl.

Roux has got it made! All those toys and fun perches. I love seeing spoiled parrots :orange:

PS. I just noticed that I have the same foraging clear plastic ball. I love those things. I fill them with brown shredded paper and stuff some pistachios in there.

Yeah if I known I had a female (recently DNA sexed)I joke I would have named her Diva lol

I fill Roux's foraging ball with Nutriberries and those crumbles. I have another two other foraging things. One has cups like flowers were I put her regular food. Another that has various blocks and shredded papers in that I hide her fav papaya pieces.

Thanx for the compliments

Nice play area :) I like the "wooden bridge", does Roux actually like it?
I'm planning to build some free-standing activity tree based on Populus tree (~1.5m high) but need to prepare it before I'll give it to Cytrynka. Then my plan is to equip the tree with ladders and bridges so she could wander around :orange:

Thanks. Yeah she uses it. I put her fresh veggies etc on a skewer near it. She's pulled the bark off most of the rungs and uses it to wipe her beak.

I added perches and ladders to her perch which makes it more fun for her too

Heh pulling the bark off the sticks is one of their favourite activities. I also noticed that conures are tidy animals, they need to keep their beaks clean. While doing this, they don't care about the cleanliness of their keeper's clothes :)

I am in the process of purchasing a dome top for my second bird and was concerned about him not being able to really play on it like a play top.
But I saw a video that an owner had with a dome top. He connected a few perches on it like the ones we use inside. Since the top is curved the perches wer facing on an angle. He then connected ropes, ladders, etc to the perches. This created a nice play top. The only disadvantage is no tray to catch poop AND if the top is able to open up, you won't be able to.
Otherwise, it was really nice.

Very nice, but I would like to offer one suggestion.
Please replace the spring loaded clips with the stainless secure screw types.
Too many fids have been injured with the cheap screw types and the spring loaded clips.
Please see this thread:

I just read the thread, how scary. By spring loaded quick links, do you mean this: https://www.e-rigging.com/quarter-i...r9pTzUdK34m1VMoGHC0WztgGCWxYHj8BoChB8QAvD_BwE

Or this: https://www.amazon.com/AGPtek-Quick-Carabiner-Connector-Screw/dp/B00RBEFUDA

PS. Sorry for the derail, Aplanis!!

Thanks everyone for your comments and compliments.

As mentioned I wanted to show how I added to a standard perch as well to make it more fun for Roux

I added a bendable rope perch and ladder. Also added the robe perch I removed from inside the cage when I changed to sisal for the cage to the perch just in case she flew to the floor. She was then able to climb her way up

No worries. Yeah which type did you mean? The ones commonly referred as Carabiner?

Thanks

Update: I found the type in the article you referenced. I will be making sure they are tight or replace with more heavy duty ones.

Roux has been able to undo nuts from some things. I was surprised. Plus I think they are attracted to the shiny metal

Thanks BoomBoom for the warning

Thanks!

I got it from Pet Smart. Not every store had them. But I found one not too far from me.

I'd have to say anything spring loaded is dangerous, too easy to get something caught in there and get hurt.
The e-rigging one is very sharp, DO NOT USE. The Amazon link did not work, sorry.

Here is a better type of link, but you need to make sure you tighten it with a wrench and don't leave any sharp burrs.

They are available in many different sizes and in stainless to ensure there is no galvanized or cadmium coating.

Hope this helps.

I ordered the stainless steel multi-links from Amazon today.

Thanks, Wakawaka. I have a similar type (screw in link) but shaped like a tear. I don't use spring loaded. Definitely I can see how dangerous these could be.

I appreciate the heads up!

Just as an FYI, the tear shaped one is what snagged Violet_Diva's baby like a fish hook. I truly believe that the oval (race track shaped) ones that have a hex nut shape to tighten are much better.

We use the gigantic ones for Arika. With her being a Macaw, the smaller ones would not last long at all.

The nice thing is, they come in all sizes and are available from most big box and hardware stores. Just be sure to order stainless and not galvanized because of heavy metal toxicity.

Our feathered family members rely on us for food, water, healthy environment, companionship, love, and keeping them safe. We made our promise to Arika and are happy to help others make the same pledge to their fids any way we can.

I use the tear shaped one with a round nut that I would manually turn to tighten. It's not spring loaded. See below:

Is this what you mean? If so then I will not hesitate to replace everything in my flock's cages.

Yes, that is the tear shaped style that hooked Violet_Diva's bird. I would suggest the other style that has a hex type nut that you can tighten with a wrench.
I would strongly suggest staying away from the spring loaded ones too.
There are a few more pics and links listed in her thread that show the offending hook. See below:
